The Garmin Aera 500 replaces Garmin's 296 as an affordable and capable portable aviation GPS. This unit features a touchscreen interface that makes using the unit very user friendly. The Aera 500 has a Jeppesen database that includes all of the Airports, VORs, NDBs, Intersections, Airspace and Airport Information. It also will display Obstacles, Terrain and IFR Airways. It operates for 5 hours with the Lithium Battery fully charged. It will also interface with the Garmin SL30, SL40 for frequency tuning and the GTX330 for Traffic.

The Garmin Aera 500 also features an automotive mode. When driving, the Garmin Aera 500 will operate the same as Garmin's popular Nuvi line of Automotive GPSs. The Aera 500 has a complete North American Street database and it provides turn-by-turn guidance. It also has Bluetooth wireless technology for hands free calling in the car.
